All About Almonds! DIY Almond Oil & DIY Almond Masks!

Did You Know?

Almond oil contains vitamins A, B and E, all of which are essential to strengthening and moisturizing your skin

Dry Skin

Almond oil is included in many popular anti-aging creams and other beauty products because of its moisturizing capabilities. Its high levels of vitamins A and E promote moist skin, and can also help to cleanse pores. Clean pores mean fewer blemishes, blackheads and pimples to combat with. Almond oil also helps to encourage skin cells to renew, eliminating dead skin cells from the surface and leaving behind a clean, fresh look, as well as a moisturized and smooth. Plus, almond oil absorbs quickly into your skin and unlike other essential oils, almond oil doesn’t feel greasy or oily at all.

Almond Oil Facial Mask Recipe

1 Egg

1 tsp almond oil

In a blender mix all the ingredients together. Make sure it’s mixed well. On clean skin apply the mask all over the face avoiding eye and lip area. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Wash off in warm water. Lastly, apply moisturizer.

Almond oil can revitalize dry or damaged hair. Apply almond oil to the hair and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse it out and wash your hair as normal. After a few applications, you will see shine and moisture restored to your hair. Another option is looking for a shampoo or conditioner that contains almond oil.

Need a Massage Oil?

Almond oil makes an excellent massage oil. It helps to soothe and relive muscle pain. Almond oil is also used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation and treat headache pain. Another benefit is massaging almond oil into your skin will also add a brighter sheen and glow to the complexion of your skin. With it being such a great lubricant, it can also reduce the symptoms and appearance of red, itchy areas caused by irritation or rash.

If you do not have almond oil, why not make your own.

Making Your Own Almond Oil
Here’s how:

Place almonds into a blender. Begin blending at a slower speeding gradually working your way to a quicker speed. The almonds will form into a ball, which is perfectly normal. Every now and again you will have to remove the almonds from the sides of the blender. Continue blending until almonds turn into a creamy paste. Add a teaspoon of olive oil to the mix. Blend for another minute. The ball should begin to break down, if not add one more teaspoon of olive oil. Mix until the mixture is  a creamy paste. Lastly, place the paste in a container and store it at room temperature for 1-2 weeks to allow the oil to separate from the nut.

Need an almond mask? Almond masks are my favourite!

This is one mask I didn’t make myself, it’s a recipe that I had found years ago.

Almond Yoghurt Honey Mask

1. 6oz plain yoghurt
2. ¼oz finely-crushed almonds
3. 2tsp honey
4. 2tsp wheatgerm oil

Mix all the ingredients into a smooth paste. Apply and massage the mixture into skin. Keep the mask on for 20 minutes.

I mix all of the ingredients in a blender.

This is perfect for those cold, dry Winter months.

Which Foundation is For You?

Smashbox Cosmetics Smashbox Cosmetics Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation SPF 10

Dehydrated Skin

Guess what? There are now foundations that contain skincare ingredients in them. These foundations are designed to hydrate your skin. All the while providing the coverage you need and want. I’m currently using the foundation above. I’ve just discovered it. It works really well.

Dry Skin

Any foundation that is water based works well. It can be a liquid foundation, a mousse. It can be oil based. It can be even cream foundation. For dry skin and dehydrated skin, I’d stay away from any silicone-based products. Silicone dries out the skin. It actually causes the skin to be more dehydrated. I doubt you want to end up mature skin, or premature aging skin.

Normal Skin

My best advice for you, is to look into what skin condition do you have. I have normal skin, but I turn to product that hydrate my skin. If skin is sensitive, than skincare that for sensitive skin. Sensitive skin and dehydrated skin are practically hand in hand. Otherwise, use which ever foundation you’d prefer.

Oily Skin

Look for anything that will either balance out the sebum or to absorb it. Powder foundation is a good choice. Non-oily foundations. For example, liquid, mousse, oil – look for which essential oils that are good for your skin type, or read up on it here: Acne Prone/Blemish Prone Skin & Face Oils for Your Skin Type!

Acne Prone/Blemish Prone Skin & Face Oils for Your Skin Type!

Just because you have blemish prone skin, it doesn’t always mean you have oily skin or that all oils are not good for your skin. Some oils are for oily skin, while others are not. You can have blemishes, not acne (there’s a difference) and not have oily skin. It id often linked to sensitive skin and/or dehydrated skin.

What oil is good for blemishes is good for all skin types; normal, dry and oily.  Jojoba oil is excellent to cure acne/blemishes, so is tea tree oil. That, tea tree oil and clove oil help to prevent any future breakouts.

Some oils for oily skin: “Grape seed oil clears pores since it has anti inflammatory property, and it’s very rich in lineolic acid, which helps calm the skin,” says Odacité Oils founder and CEO Valerie Grandury. There is also marula oil, that’s an made from the nut of the African marula tree. It prevents future breakouts, while keeping the sebum balanced.

Dry Skin: Moisturizing face oils are coconut oil, almond oil are all very good. Coconut oil has proven through research that it is actually more beneficial that mineral oil to moisturize your skin.

Dehydrated Skin: Hydrating face oils are argan oil, olive oil. Grape seed oil and jojoba oil is also very good for this skin condition to fight off wrinkles and fine lines that is associated to dehydrated skin. As skin ages, we loose hydration that leads to fine lines and wrinkles.

Rocky Mountain Face Polish & Face Mask

I had recently tried a face polish and a face mask by Rocky Mountain Soap. I really liked them, both. I’m obsessed. I use these two products as a DIY spa day.

Brightening Face Polish (C$16.75,

The Brightening Face Polish in Bamboo deeply cleanses the skin with an exfoliant, too. Because, it also contains bamboo. Bamboo brightens the skin. Which is good for those who have acne or blemishes, regardless of skin type or skin condition. My skin felt that deep clean, with the mild exfoliant, with a silky soft finish. My skin was polished, so polished it was fantastic. Face Polish  is for anyone who has blemishes/acne wanting to lighten these imperfections, or any imperfections, such as dark circles, discoloration (redness). As for skin type, due to it being a deep cleanser, well, deep cleaners are generally designed for oily to normal skin types. This formula tightens pores.  May I add, how much I love the mint smell of this Face Polish. It’s toxin-free.

Rocky Mountain Face Polish in Bamboo

Honey and Face Polish

How to Apply:

With the powdered mixture that you have taken a dime size amount in a bowl, mix it with a bit of water. Apply all over your face. Rinse off with a warm wash cloth.

I’ve used water and the mixture, as well as honey and the mixture. Honey is a natural cleanser, so I had combined a two-in-one, actually it’s more like a three-in-one; cleanser, exfoliator, moisturizer.

Also Try:

Combining this Polish with water will give you the most intense exfoliation, but you can combine it with Cleansing Oil, Day Cream, Honey, Yogurt or whatever nourishing and natural base that your skin is craving. Polish away dead skin to reveal your freshest, most glowing complexion.

Additional Information:

Tea Tree and Eucalyptus that gives it the fresh, ‘wake me up’ scent. We’ve added French Green Clay for its excellent detoxifying properties.
