DIY Beauty Routine for Spa Clients

Editor’s note: When spa clients come in for a beauty treatment, they may look to you as the spa therapist for a sustainable beauty routine that they can take with them when they leave. Makeup artist Stacey Hobbs gives us some helpful tips about where to start.

Makeup is designed to enhance naturally beautiful features, not to camouflage them. When applying makeup, always remember to remove any and all excess product onto a paper towel or the back of the hand. This prevents makeup from looking caked on. In addition, apply makeup in a downward motion to prevent the product from entering the pores. Another option is to apply the product from side-to-side, just so long as it is in a downward motion. Don’t use fingers to apply makeup. The oils in the hand differ from the oils on the face. Mixing these two, plus the oils in makeup products, will cause makeup to separate.

I have broken it all down in Spa Inc Magazine! Get all the details in the mag! 🙂

You’ve heard me right. In addition to chamomile to calming an upset stomach, calming migraines, calming the redness on your skin (even for babies!), it has amazing benefits to thicken your hair. Who knew?! Quite honestly, this doesn’t apply to me, as I have really thick hair, enough for the bald heads, as my many hair stylists have told me since i can remember. Not too brag. So, I had turned to a friend who has thin hair to try this out.

Since thick hair derives from healthy hair (how to obtain and main it, click on the link for my tips :)). All you have to do is drink a cup of chamomile tea.

4 Tricks to Reduce Inflamed (Redness) Skin

Image result for lemon juice

Lemon Juice

Lemons, limes and grapefruits are natural bleechers, which means they help to remove any uneven complexion, redness, dark circles, brown/sun/age spots, etc. IF you don’t have sensitive skin, you can use the lemon juice (or any citric fruit that is mentioned) as is. If your skin is sensitive, then dilute the citrus juice. Dilute it with water. If your skin is very sensitive, like mine is, then I diltue the lemon juice by pouring in the same amount of lemon juice. So, if you have a quarter of a cup of lemon juice in your cup/jar/bowl, then the same amount of cool water is what will do the trick. I promise you, it will not cause an irritation to the skin. Same goes for lime and grapefruit. This mixture makes for a great all natural toner.

Aspirin

Ibuprofen to be precise helps to reduce reduce redness, this includes blemishes. For the full recipe, please click on the link above. 🙂

Bamboo Gel

Bamboo reduces and calms any redness on your skin. It’s also an anti-aging ingredient, so in addition to removing the redness, it also keeps the fine lines and wrinkles at bay. Bamboo has recently been discovered to be a bit more effective than aloe vera, in addition, it works much quicker, too. Don’t get me wrong, aloe vera is an oldie, but goodie. I know that The Face Shop has a really good bamboo gel.

Benefits of Chamomile Tea

Chamomile

Thanks to its bacterial and calming properties, chamomile is so gentile that you can even apply it on your baby’s bottom when they have a rash or just straight redness. After brewing the tea bag, through away the tea bag. Wait for the tea to cool down. I’d say wait about ten minutes or so. Use a makeup pad (one that you use to remove your makeup) on areas where you have inflammatory skin. Even rosacea. This has been an ancient treatment to treat inflamed skin. Or you can enjoy a cup of tea after brewing it. If so, enjoy!

DIY Face Mask: Yogurt & Honey

I had recently made this mask. It contains yogurt and honey. Yogurt is so good for your skin. It’s excellent to restore hydration into your skin, (making it an anti-aging ingredient), plus yogurt is for very sensitive skin. It brightens your skin, which means it will brighten your blemishes, dark circles, redness, basically any uneven skin tone. Plus, it naturally reduces fine lines and wrinkles, making it such a great anti-aging face mask. The lactic acid in yogurt will help dissolve dead skin and tighten pores.

As I was making my mask, I will admit I got a little, okay, really generous with the honey. Lol. It became more of a honey mask, than yogurt, even though this face mask does contain yougurt. I would use two table spoons of yogurt, plus one squirt of honey. In that bowl is what too much honey in the yogurt looks like. See, I love honey in my masks, haha. Oops. I will make this recipe better next time ;). I always cleanse my face before applying any mask. My pores need to be prepped and awake, so I get the most out of my face masks. I don’t want any mask I use for my skin to receive a bit of the goodness, as oppose the full amount.

If you have made this recipe, please tell me your thoughts! Share in the comments!

DIY Reduce Cellulite with Coffee Grinds!

Image result for coffee grinds

#Cellulite! What a pain to have. Am I right?! Cellulite is normally found on the fattiest parts of the body, so this would usually be the upper thighs and the bum. Six months after I had turned thirty I got my first sighting of cellulite on my butt. How dare they pop up! Lol. #WelcomeToTheThirties !!! No, I’m not going to show you my cellulite, because of where it is. I have learned the best way to reduce it is by using a harsh #exfoliator. #CoffeeGrinds. To get the best results, so the grinds are being used efficiently, I prefer to use them after I have brewed a cup of #coffee (except I seldom drink it). I’ll brew it, just for the sake of using coffee grinds to reduce my cellulite.

This is what I do to reduce the cellulite.

I take the already used coffee grinds put them into a bowl or jar. When showering right before I use body wash, I will use the grinds right where I have the cellulite. Massage it. Remove it with warm water and a wash cloth. I then use my body wash. After I shower, I use body lotion.

If you want something quick and simple. Wet the area that has cellulite with warm water with a wash cloth. Apply the coffee grinds. Massage it with your hands. Remove it with warm water. Apply body lotion. And, viola! You are fini (finished).

Since I don’t have stretch marks, I had a couple of good friends of mine who have tested out the coffee grinds on their stretch marks, and they have said that it also helps to reduce stretch marks.

Beauty Benefits of Tea Tree Oil

Here are amazing ways to use tea tree oil from an article I had found from Readers Digest. It’s a great article that I thought I would share with you. It treats psoriasis to acne to remove make-up. Check it out!

Use tea tree oil to clear acne

To Clear Acne

If you’re looking for a home remedy for acne, a 5 percent solution of tea tree oil works just as well as the top drugstore acne remedy, benzoyl peroxide, according to Australian researchers studying their native resource. Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with 20 to 40 drops of witch hazel, and apply to skin once or twice a day with a cotton swab. Be careful to not overuse it: while gentler than benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil can dry out your skin, triggering your body to overproduce its own oils and make your acne worse. If you apply it to your face, stay out of the sun—tea tree oil can make you more sensitive to UV rays.

Use tea tree oil to remove makeup

To Remove Make-up

For normal to dry skin, try mixing 1/4 cup canola oil with 10 drops of tea tree oil in a 4-ounce sterilized glass jar with a tight-fitting lid and shake until blended. Store in a cool, dark place. To use, saturate a cotton ball with the oil and sweep over your face to remove makeup. Rinse well with warm water and follow with a toner.

Use tea tree oil to zap boils

To Remove Boils

Tea tree oil is highly effective against staph infections, even those that are antibiotic-resistant. Just dab a little on the boil several times a day.

Use tea tree oil to treat yeast infections

To Treat Yeast Infections

Studies have found that tea tree oil disrupts the membranes of yeast cells, and lavender kills Candida in a test tube. Mix them together and yeast doesn’t have a chance. Tea tree oil is toxic when swallowed, so don’t use this to treat oral infections. • 5 drops tea tree essential oil • 5 drops lavender essential oil • Distilled water Mix the tea tree and lavender oils with a few drops of distilled water. Using a cotton swab, dab the blend on the affected parts of the body.

Use tea tree oil to relieve psoriasis

To Relieve Psoriasis

Rub a few drops of tea tree oil, diluted in a little olive oil, into your psoriasis patches several times a day. The Australian remedy is useful for relieving itch and softening plaques, especially if you have a mild case.

Use tea tree oil to reduce cold sores

To Reduce Cold Sores

Apply tea tree essential oil directly on the cold sore three or four times a day. However, tea tree oil is toxic, so avoid getting it in your mouth.

Use tea tree oil to eliminate toenail fungus

To Eliminate Toenail Fungus

In a study, participants applying 100 percent pure tea tree oil to nail fungus for a minimum of three months did as well at killing it as did those using prescription anti-fungal cream; 60 percent of both groups completely or partially eradicated their symptoms. Once or twice a day—every day—apply a drop or two of 100 percent pure tea tree oil to the discolored nail. Be careful not to apply tea tree to the skin, because undiluted tea tree oil may be irritating.

Use tea tree oil to fight foot odor

To Fight Odor

The herbs and essential oils in this aromatic blend help to reduce sweatiness, fight odor, and leave feet fresh and clean. Rosemary and ginger stimulate circulation, and sage discourages perspiration: • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary • 1 tablespoon dried sage • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger root, finely grated, or 1 teaspoon dried powered ginger • 4 cups water, plus extra as needed • 1 tablespoon baking soda • 1 tablespoon Epsom salts • 10 drops tea tree essential oil • Small ice cubes or crushed ice Place rosemary, sage, and ginger in a large saucepan with water. Bring to a boil. remove from heat, cover, and steep for 10 minutes then strain. Add baking soda, Epsom salts, and tea tree oil. Mix well. Pour into a foot spa or shallowe basin big enough for both feet. Top with extra water and add ice. Soak feet for 15 minutes; pat dry. Follow with a dusting of fragrant foot powder.

Use tea tree oil to soften dry cuticles

To Subtle Dry Cuticles

The essential oils in this rich, softening blend help to counter cracked and ragged cuticles. Tea tree oil is a proven fungus fighter, while lavender is anti-inflammatory and healing. You can find avocado and jojoba oil in health food stores, or you can substitute olive oil for either or both. • 1 tablespoon jojoba oil • 1 tablespoon avocado oil • 10 drops tea tree essential oil • 10 drops lavender essential oil Pour the jojoba and avocado oils into a small, dark-colored glass bottle, which will help preserve the oil. Then, add tea tree and lavender essential oils, screw on cap, and shake to combine. Before using the cuticle oil, shake the bottle well, then massage a few drops into your nails and cuticles daily to soften your cuticles and prevent them from splitting.

DIY Honey Mask!

Honey Mask
I’ve used an honey only mask. Apply honey as is onto a cleansed face. Leave it on until it dries. Once it dries, with a warm cloth, wash it off. Skin feels really soft, radiant.

Stacey Says: Honey treats blemishes, as it also nourishes the skin, making it perfect to deliver the right amount of hydration to the skin without it being too much.
